2020 CENSUS UPDATE FOR BEDFORD AND LAWRENCE COUNTY

AS OF APRIL 28TH 2020 THE 2020 CENSUS SELF RESPONSE FOR BEDFORD IS 58.2%, AND TOTAL RESPONSE FOR LAWRENCE COUNTY IS 56.3% AND INTERNET IS 37.5%.  

THE STATE OF INDIANA IS CURRENTLY IN 11TH PLACE WITH THE SELF-RESPONSE AT 58.2% AND READY TO MOVE UP.

REMINDER: IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR 2020 CENSUS - THE ONLINE, PHONE OR MAILED SELF RESPONSES CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DATA COLLECTION PROCESS WHICH HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM MARCH 12TH THRU OCTOBER 31ST IN LIGHT OF THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK.

 CENSUS AWARENESS WEEKEND IS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 1ST - MAY 3RD.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - EVERYONE CAN PLAY A PART IN ENSURING A COMPLETE AND ACCURATE ACCOUNT IN 2020.

IMPORTANTANCE OF THE CENSUS: THE U.S. CONSTITUTION MANDATES THAT A CENSUS OF THE POPULATION BE CONDUCTED EVERY 10 YEARS. CENSUS STATISTICS ARE USED TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF SEATS EACH STATE HOLDS IN THE US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND INFORMS HOW STATE, LOCAL AND FEDERAL LAWMAKERS WILL ALLOCATE BILLIONS IN FEDERAL FUNDS TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES EVERY YEAR FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS.

THE FEDERAL FUNDS WHICH ARE ALLOCATED DUE TO THE CENSUS DATA RESULTS HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS ASSIST IN OUR HEALTH CLINICS, SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMS, EDUCATION, DISASTER RECOVERY AND OTHER CRITICAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS.
