Second meeting
for Williams Dam study set for March 4
Indiana
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff will hold a meeting to share
updates on the scope of work, goals, and preliminary findings for the
Williams Dam engineering feasibility study at 5:30 p.m. ET on March 4.
The
meeting will take place in Brinegar Hall at Stone Gate Arts & Education
Center at 931 15th St. in Bedford.
The feasibility
study is being conducted to determine the future of the dam on the East Fork
of the White River in Williams. Its goals are to determine the feasibility of
full, partial or no dam removal; determine the impact of each option; and
prepare comparative plans and cost estimates.
After
the first meeting last October, SWCA Environmental Consultants, with support
from DNR, conducted research regarding the variables involved in each
proposed plan. The preliminary findings of these study tasks to be presented
at the meeting will include:
- Impacts on river water levels
- Impacts on groundwater and wells
- Stream sediment characterization
- Impacts on aquatic passage.
- Permitting
- Alternative renderings
DNR’s
Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) program and the United States Fish & Wildlife
Service (USFWS) National Fish Passage Program are funding the project.
DNR
encourages all interested parties to attend. Those unable to attend but
wanting additional details can request them by emailing ross.stclair@swca.com.
